Data Counter is a great iPhone app utility brought to us by Marco Ancona (eXeltior). It serves as a method to count how much bandwidth you are using each month no matter what provider you have. It monitors the amount of data your phone is using and sets alerts and reminder so that you don’t go over your monthly plan limit. It’s a great way to not only make sure you aren’t going over your total and getting charged more, but also as a way to keep track of your usage habits. It also gives you a method of monitoring your WIFI download speeds.
Data Counter has several features that are useful in a variety of ways. First, it uses background capability through GPS to monitor your traffic usage and notify you when you are approaching your traffic limit. Another feature is that this iPhone app will record all of the information about your usage throughout the day and plot it on a graph for easy viewing and comparing with other day’s info to spot trends in your usage. The alert features could be invaluable if you have a limited data plan with your carrier.
Data Counter is very straightforward and easy to use. You can set your bill cycle to indicate when your data plan will reset. You indicate what your data plan is in MB and this app will keep you from going over your limit. Data Counter works with every carrier because it records the data that your device is using and has nothing to do with your provider. You can even use this app with NO connection. Be aware, however, that this app does not support CDMA iPhone 4.
You are free to enter your information into Data Counter and let it do the rest. I really like how you can customize the dates that countdown to your plan resetting. It gives you the ability to closely monitor your data usage. Most of us don’t pay attention and this app can save us money by alerting us when we are close to going over our plan’s limit. That could be a life saver since service providers can charge excessive overage fees.
Data Counter costs $1.99 and I believe that if you don’t have an unlimited data plan, this iPhone app could be worth its weight in gold by saving you money by not going over your plan’s data limit.
If you need to keep an eye on your data usage or simply like to check on your WIFI connection speeds, this app is for you. Knowledge is power and potentially saving money by keeping track of your usage makes this app very worth adding to your utility app collection.
