From the attractively animated splash screen to the bright, high-resolution in-game graphics, Fruit Frenzy is a real delight on the eyes. The graphics are complimented by a slick interface and simple controls. With 5 columns of fruit that you can slide vertically, and one middle row that you can slide horizontally, the aim of the game is to create matches of three or more in the central row. There are a number of combos that you can pull off, as well as special fruit that act as score multipliers.
Fruit will fall from both the top and bottom of the screen in Arcade mode and the challenge is in matching fruit as fast as you can before the whole screen fills up. There’s also a Time Attack mode in which you have just three minutes to score as many points as you can and a Puzzle Mode in which you have to clear the board in a certain number of moves. Each different game mode has five difficulty levels from ‘beginner’ to ‘insane’, so you’ll never be without a good challenge. Fruit Frenzy is OpenFeint enabled, with leaderboards and achievements and you can compare your high scores with friends and other players from around the world.
There’s a useful help section in the main menu that provides you with straightforward instructions and tips for getting a handle on the game mechanic and achieving those big high scores, and is worth a read for first-time players.
