I can only imagine that being pregnant comes with an endless supply of questions. What’s going on with the baby at this stage? How should I expect to feel? What does it look like now? For those questions and more, there is Pregnancy & Baby Development.
Designed by Modality Inc., this free app is a wealth of medical information for moms- and dads-to-be, including advice, photos, and infant development insight. When I first opened the app, I entered my (imaginary) due date. This immediately generated a line graph charting my progress and an interesting essay on what was going on with my fictional baby during this week. (Incidentally, he was apparently developing the ability to taste, and fat stores were starting to accumulate under his skin.)
Under “Tools,” you can access a conception calendar, a contraction counter, a journal to keep notes, and a list of popular baby names. There’s also a separate section to take notes in during your doctor’s visits. In the educational section, you can choose a week and read about facts like how big your baby is, what senses are developing, and what sensations you might feel during that time. There’s also high-quality photos accompanying each week so you can see just what is going on in there.
The education section also includes tips on infant nutrition and what foods you should avoid while you’re pregnant (and why). And every time you open the app, it tracks what week you’re in a provides new info right on the home page.
Pregnancy and Baby Development is a well-designed, easy to navigate app with an astonishing amount of information. As a freebie, I’d definitely recommend this one to expectant parents.
Pregnancy and Baby Development requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
