To travel the world is one of the greatest luxuries a person could ever enjoy. But when you finally get the chance to venture out, the impending language barrier is the last thing you want standing in between you and the fun journey ahead. With English – Spanish Phrasebook – Everyday Spanish by RosMedia, users will find a fantastic phrasebook that speaks to you, helping you master the basics any traveler needs to know when exploring a foreign country.
Like its German, French and Polish counterparts (which you find mentioned on the very last tab), Everyday Spanish helps users who want to get a grasp on the basic foundation of the Spanish language. Designed for those with little to no knowledge of the language, these applications focus on words, phrases, questions and answers that will help anyone function in a foreign country.
When you start up the application, you will simply find a page that reiterates the App Store description of whichever language you choose, which would be Spanish in this instance. The next tab, labeled Spain, offers some basic information about the country itself. Learn about its capital, government, population, currency and more. Even browse a few select photographs of major cities throughout the country. And while Everyday Spanish seems to focus on Spain, I do believe that these lessons will seamlessly translate to any Spanish speaking culture, for they truly represent only the basics not specific to any certain dialect.
The next page, the Phrasebook, is where users will want to focus their attention, for it is here that they will find all the available categories, including Useful Expressions, Greetings and Polite Expressions, Time, Weather, Personal Details, Shopping and much more. Choose any section you wish and you will see that nearly every category begins with basic words pertaining to the topic, followed by phrases and questions also associated with the topic. You may listen to an audio clip of each word or phrase, as well, in either English or Spanish. This way you may learn the proper pronunciation so you won’t necessarily look like a tourist. (Though you probably still will, whom are we trying to kid?)
Everyday Spanish [iTunes Link] requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
