Am I a car fanatic? Not really – but CarBuzz is so well-done, I find myself browsing it just because I enjoy the app itself.
Designed by wapit ltd, this application is one that falls into that rare “free but fantastic” category. According to their iTunes page, CarBuzz is updated “every day, without exception,” and I believe it. My only (very small) complaint was that the app took a few minutes to load the very first time I opened it. However, I’m always greeted with new content, right on the main page.
Think of this app as a free car magazine subscription, minus the annoying advertisements. When you open it, you can scroll down the most recent updates and news on various makes and models. Tap one and you’ve got a slideshow, complete with high-quality pictures and news. You can even tap the icon in the bottom right corner to add a comment and join the conversation.
If you want to browse for something specific, tap “Cars” in the upper right corner. You can choose reviews or upcoming car info from the “Buzz” category, or search by manufacturer. Once you’ve chosen the manufacturer, tap “Models.” Here’s where the attention to detail is really impressive; not only does this generate a list of makes, but each one includes a picture of that make. Tap the image to get a picture slideshow, featured news, and other on that car.
The amount of care and work that clearly went into this free app is really impressive. From serious collectors to general car enthusiasts, I’d highly recommend CarBuzz both for entertainment and keeping up with the latest news.
CarBuzz [iTunes link] requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
