Polish It Puts Odd Spin on Old Saying

With a vast selection of applications being sold through Apple’s App Store, the main obstacle a developer must overcome is the tend to blend.  Unless they’re already well known, app creators must conjure up an idea that will stand out above the crowd in order to attract attention and gain sales.  However, there’s a difference between being distinctive and creative and, well, pulling the idea out of your butt.

Polish It by MaxPowerSoft, LLC provides unknowing customers will a rather attractive App Store description.  Polish It supposedly allows users to “therapeutically” polish objects from the comfort of their couch, on the bus, or in their cubicle.  Working off the idea that everyone, at one time or another, has spent valuable time trying fix up a project that was doomed in the first place, Polish It’s goal is to have users find an object they like and polish it.

The concept sounds interesting until you consider where the developer found their true inspiration for Polish It.  According the description, there is a supposed old, well know phrase, which states: “You can’t polish a t**d.”

(For those who can’t fill in the blanks, the last word in the phrase is “turd.”  I bet you can see exactly where this is headed now.)

While users have been promised a choice of over 10 different objects to polish, I bet they never would have thought that each object is indeed just a differently shaped turd.  With full 3D effects, simply tilt the screen to maneuver the turd and use the touchscreen to rub and polish your poo until it looks shiny and new.

You’ll know your poo has been polished to its finest shine when a halo appears above it and a heavenly sound rings out.  If you enjoy the outcome, use the bottom navigation bar, which you can access simply by tapping the yellow triangle, and use the camera icon to capture an image so you can share the final product with friends.  And, for those who aren’t very happy with how their masterpiece turns out, have no fear!  The toilet seat icon in the middle of the navigation bar will let you easily flush your not-so-hard work down the toilet.

A successful shine comes in only a few moments’ time, but no matter how many times you flush, you are guaranteed to get only another poo to polish.  The only variety is in what shape you may get next.  Otherwise, it is simply tricky wording that will have customers believing they will have to buff up something that doesn’t belong in the toilet.  But, on the bright side, Polish It does indeed make it acceptable to touch some turds!

Polish It requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer in order to speed up the publication of this review.

  1. Hello Anna,

I’d like to thank you for reviewing Polish It! We worked very hard on creating an engine that would enable you to literally polish a turd with your finger. Your review hits the nail on the head about the goal of our app – simply to polish turds and share them with your friends.

During our testing phase, we had every indication that it was very clear what the app was about – whether it was due to the poopy icon, the screenshot of poop, the ‘doo doo doo’ theme song, or the name Polish It (say it out loud a few times), we never had anybody asking us why the next object wasn’t an apple or a mirror or something. As well, the 1st sentence of our description in the App Store reads “Polish It is both a literal and cute/comedic take on the old and well-known phrase “You can’t polish a t**d”.

Again, I thank you for the review, and I recognize that there will be differing opinions regarding our app. However saying that tricky wording was used to confuse the buyer into believing they would be polishing objects other than turds seems over the top, and implies deviousness on our part. Turd polishing is a serious subject and is nothing to be secretive about!

    Thanks again,

    Nicolas Danielson
