For expectant parents, the birth of their child is one of the most important day of their lives (and the most important day in their child’s life, some would say). Parenting is one of the most difficult, yet rewarding, privileges, so to be prepared for the biggest change in one’s life is the best way to ensure a steady future. And this planning must start well before little junior makes his or her way out of the womb. Luckily, with MyLaborBags by Newbyman Enterprises LLC, expectant parents can plan according well in advance.
Because due dates aren’t set in stone MyLaborBags is designed to help expectant parents create lists of exactly what items they need to have on hand in case the little decides to make an early appearance.
MyLaborBags breaks the bags into four categories: Mommy’s Bag, Daddy’s Bag, Baby’s Bag and All Bags (which allows you to view all three bags on screen at once). The lists come preloaded with nearly 100 items that most consider as must-haves for getting started. Users may use these lists, adding and subtracting items as they see fit, or create their own Custom MyLaborBags. Conveniently, users can switch between their custom list and the pre-made lists that come with the download. With an unlimited storage space, users can make their lists as short or long as they desire. Also, MyLaborBags benefits from the easy swiping technology most are used to when deleting items from other apps on their device. Swipe to delete or simply tap the check mark to indicate you have obtained a given item.
While both Mommy and Daddy’s bags contain basic necessities essential to both, Mommy’s list may include a breast pump or a going home outfit for when she’s released from the hospital, while Daddy’s list may feature a digital camera and camcorder so he can record all of their newborn’s firsts. Users can manage each item’s Description, Location, Cost, Quantity, Packed Status and Notes right within the list so they can remain organized and efficient.
In fact, users can easily customize each family member’s bag to coincide with their individual personalities. Modify profile names, bag colors and fill styles, color intensity, and even the sex of your baby. All adjustments can be made within your iPhone or iPod Touch’s Settings app, not directly within MyLaborBags itself. Sharing lists with others is an easy task. With one click, export bags in the form of easy-to-read, color-coded emails.
To measure your preparedness, there is a floating “Stat Bar” that can be found at the top of each bag. Simply shake the device and MyLaborBags will automatically perform a statistical analysis that will estimate exactly how ready your family is for the big day. Users may also choose to receive alerts at intervals of one and two weeks prior to their due date so they can make sure all is packed and that their preparations are on schedule.
But, most interestingly is the sub-app included right within MyLaborBags called MyDueDate, which calculates information based on your child’s expected due date, such as: Day of the Week, Time Remaining, Pregnancy Week and Trimester Information. These calculations tell the mother exactly how far along she is and how many weeks she has left to prepare (assuming nothing unexpected occurs) without her having to do any of the math herself. And, at such a busy time in the expectant parent’s life, conveniences and shortcuts are the types of things that will soon be considered a Godsend. Plus, with so much preparation underway, MyLaborBags is almost like a pre-birth nanny in the palm of your hand, there to make sure everything runs smoothly for Mommy, Daddy and Baby.
MyLaborBags requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
