Get Breaking News, Cartoons and Comedy With MobiTV

Price: FREE    Score: 8/10    By M. SchustermanMobiTV

I admit that I haven’t really looked into TV apps all that much, and I do expect anything that comes close to resembling actual television options to come with a price. That said, I’m not sure how worth downloading or upgrading MobiTV is – I think it would depend on your viewing habits and frequency.

The free version gives you breaking news from ABC news NOW and a few selections of on-demand clips from NBC, Fox, and the Associated Press. In addition to breaking news stories, there’s also classic cartoons like Rocky and Bullwinkle and a few comedy selections. The breaking news bit is a great feature to have for free, even if MobiTV doesn’t feature your preferred news program, as you can still stay on top of the latest stories.

The upgrade pricing is as follows:

  • 1 month: $9.99
  • 3 months: $24.99
  • 6 months: $44.99

Upgrading gets you full-length shows from more than 35 channels like Comedy Central, Disney, NBC, SyFy and Nickelodeon. Again, I personally wouldn’t watch enough to make that price worth it, but I can see how this would be a good deal depending on your needs. If I were taking a long road trip with a friend, I can definitely see the $9.99 making it worth having the latest episodes of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report available. And if you’re following the World Cup, check it out live on ESPN Mobile TV with MobiTV.

My advice? If you’re looking for an app for your TV viewing pleasure and are willing to pay, give this one a free download and check it out to judge for yourself. It’s free, it’s easy to navigate and I think it’s definitely one to consider.

I agree, i don’t like an app that charges you to watch TV. Doesn’t that just defeat the purpose? Being a DISH employee however I know there is an app for being able to view all of you TV and DVR recordings on the iPhone/iPad. Works out great and its a free app in the app store.
