Get Personal Show Recommendations with beeTV

Price: FREE   Score: 9/10   By M. SchustermanbeeTV

For anyone with dozens of “can’t-miss” shows who still feel as if there’s never anything good on TV, this app will help guide you to the right channel.

You can start off using beeTV to find out what’s on. After awhile the app will figure it out for you.

If you’re not already registered on their website, you’ll enter your email address, name, and choose your cable provider by zip code when you open the app for the first time. Once the set-up is complete, beeTV asks you to rate a few different shows from one to five starts to get a feel for your taste, then creates your account.

My own recommendations? Dead-on, and a frightening look into my personality, to be quite honest. The amount of info you get with this app is pretty staggering considering the non-existent price tag. You get the channel, time, and episode info for each show, along with the ability to rate it on the same five star system. You can add comments to share your thoughts on the episode, and see its overall rating.

Searching to see what’s on at a certain time is simple. You can also set an insane amount of filters to browse for something to watch. Not just by the rating, but by duration, type (movie, series, news), mood (“smile,” “think,” “sexy,”) and genre (comedy, action, drama).

Along the bottom bar, you can choose to see the current TV listings, do regular search, check out what’s most popular, and see a list of the current deals on iTunes. And in the “My Zone” section, which you can find by tapping “More” on the bottom right, you can view those you marked as favorites or set a reminder for – which brings me to the one problem I had. I added an episode to my favorites by tapping “Queue” on the bottom left, but never quite figured out where or how to set a reminder.

Overall, this is one of those apps that offers an impressive amount of features for no cost. For avid TV watchers, a definite download.

beeTV requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer in order to speed up the publication of this review.
