Some games are good for quick entertainment, something to do in line at the grocery store. Others require more patience and time, and usually offer more of a challenge as well. Don’t Drop I, designed by Tech BLA Solutions Pvt ltd, is without a doubt the latter.
The concept proves that there are still folks out there thinking creatively and coming up with new game concepts despite the thousands already in the App Store. Basically, drops of water fall down a brick wall, and a bucket moves from left to right at the bottom of the screen. You can slide the bricks back and forth to catch the drops in the cracks, then guide them down to the bucket.
It’s definitely a challenge, as each time you move a line of bricks you effect several drops. If drops fall uncaught and miss the bucket, they add to the water at the bottom, which slowly builds. The bucket floats on top, moving you slowly closer to the top of the screen and giving you less time to catch all of the drops.
Don’t Drop I is almost disorienting at first. The bucket and drops move so slowly, they ease you into a sense of false security in which you think “eh, this is too easy.” But gradually you start to realize just how many drops are slipping by, and the water starts to build.
I loved the thought put into both the music and the graphics, which fit the game quite well. I had a tiny bit of reaction time problems with sliding the bricks back and forth – occasionally I felt the response time wasn’t quite fast enough.
If you’re the type that enjoys “quick laugh” games, this isn’t for you. But if you like games that require strategy and thought and may suck you in for an hour or two, I’d recommend giving Don’t Drop I a try.
Don’t Drop I requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer in order to speed up the publication of this review.
