Many times, getting up in the morning can be the hardest part of your day. But the key to starting your day off right is to wake up happy. Surely, this is easier said than done because most of us awake to the sound of our vicious alarm clocks busting our eardrums, causing us to wake up on the wrong side of the bed each morning.
But with Alarm Clock Audio by App Gem Ltd, waking up to your alarm can be just as stress-free as setting it. Alarm Clock Audio allows users to set as many alarms as necessary, featuring a vast assortment of settings that turn the clock into the exact wake-up machine they desire. Set your alarms, choose which days of the week you’d like them to repeat, and sleep comfortably. Plus, with minimal battery usage, keep your device close at hand and never worry about Alarm Clock Audio eating up all your battery life before your alarm has a chance to sound!
Ideal for those who do not want to experience a jolt first thing in the morning, users can set their alarm’s sound to fade-in or, if using an iPhone, set your alarm to vibrate. While there are 10 custom sounds available directly within the app, Alarm Clock Audio’s sound selection leaves a little something to be desired, offering sounds that may be a little abrupt for the morning hours. However, waking to your favorite playlist, audiobook or podcast is a delight. Plus, record your own sounds if you wish and set those as your default sound.
One of Alarm Clock Audio’s best features is that it allows users to control their snooze button by simply pressing the volume control on the side of the device. Set your snooze for intervals between one and 30 minutes. This convenient feature means users do not have to swipe to unlock their device in order to access the snooze button. Although this might be counterproductive since users have such easy access to prolonging their sleep time.
To set your alarms, tap the ‘I’ icon in the bottom right corner of the startup screen. This will take you to the screen where you may add as many alarms as you need, as well as access the bottom navigation bar that allows access to all the other aspects offered by Alarm Clock Audio. Tabs include Add Alarm, Themes, Power Nap, Lullaby and Return.
Under themes, users can choose what type of clock they prefer (Digital, Modern, Retro or Classic) and choose what color they wish the numbers to be (Yellow, Orange, Pink, White, Green or Blue). Simply tap the ‘Edit’ button in the top right corner when picking your clock and you will be able to adjust the settings for whichever theme you choose, including screen orientation and whether you prefer the 12 or 24-hour format.
The ‘Power Nap’ setting – which users can also access using the ‘P’ button on the bottom left of the home screen – allows users to easily set a nap time between one minute to 12 hours long, affording the same luxuries as the regular alarm settings. While an interesting concept, I’m not sure I can remember the last time a power nap would ever last 12 hours. This feature comes up a bit redundant in the grand scheme of what Alarm Clock Audio has to offer.
Users can also use the ‘Lullaby’ feature, which is almost like an alarm in reverse. Also accessible with the ‘L’ icon on the home screen, users can set Alarm Clock Audio to play their favorite playlist, audiobook or podcast as they fall asleep. Users can set their listening selection to gradually fade out as they drift off to sleep, or they may set it to go off at any point between one minute and 12 hours. This particular feature stands out amongst the rest for it presents a soothing way to fall asleep without having to leave music playing throughout the night in some other capacity. Not only will Alarm Clock Audio wake you up gently, it will lull you to sleep, too!
Alarm Clock Audio requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer in order to speed up the publication of this review.
