‘The Recyclies’ Resourcefully Reinforce Reading and Recycling

Price: Free   Score: 9/10   By Anna PapachristosThe Recyclies - Episode: 1

There are adventures in life that one can only experience through the art of storytelling.  Much of what we learn as children comes from the stories we hear, for we learn by example.  The Recyclies by ESZ Consulting not only promotes reading, but also teaches children the importance of recycling in this adorable children’s book designed specifically for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

Created by John Steinberg and Matthew Meadows, with theme by David Steinberg, this illustrated work revolves around the world of Recycleton, home of the Recyclies.  The Recyclies chronicles the adventures of its main characters – Bob, Eve, Pip and Viv – as they try to recycle the universe’s junk by turning it all into beautiful things with the help of Professor Recyclevitch.

In this first installment of The Recyclies, Episode 1: Sock it to Me, the people of Recycleton must help Professor Recyclevitch retrieve the sweaty, old socks he had collected for his latest recycling project.  But with the dastardly Lurp, leader of the Landfillbillies, whose sole purpose in life is to disrupt the harmony of Recycleton, the Recyclies may have their work cut out for them.  Will they be able to save Recycleton from their arch enemy before it is too late?

Written by Jaspre Bark and illustrated by Matthew Meadows, The Recyclies is an adorable way to teach and entertain children simultaneously.  Readers have the choice of reading the book themselves or having it read to them.  Read by Abby Leamon, each character gets his or her own distinctive voice, as if a school teacher were right there, in the palm of your hand, reading the story directly to you.

Not only will children become entirely engrossed in this simple tale, but its easy-to-use nature is a delight for parents as well!  Beside a trip to the library, quality children’s books do not come free these days.  Plus, to turn the page, all users must do is swipe right to left to proceed, or left to right to go back a page, much like you would when turning the pages of an actual book.  Parents can read along with their children or merely demonstrate how to turn pages in order to allow the kids to enjoy the simple pleasure of independent reading.

The Recyclies requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer in order to speed up the publication of this review.
