Berserker by One South Design is a number game with three minute rounds that you can play alone or with a friend. While the game does require some strategy to get a really high score, it is easy to pick up the rules.
The premise of the game is that you are a Viking going through a battlefield. To defeat the enemy, you take down their men one by one; each opponent is represented by a colored shield with a number on it.
When you begin a game, a number will appear on the banner on the left side of the screen and a cluster of shields will be in the center of the screen. To defeat a shield, tap on one that is numbered consecutively higher or lower than the banner. For instance, if the banner has 5 on it, you must select a shield with either a number 4 or 6 on it, and that shield will disappear. Each time you defeat a shield, that number will move to the banner.
When and if you reach a point where there are no shields left that are consecutively higher or lower than the banner number, tapping on the Viking face will add more shields to choose from; you can keep adding until a shield appears that you can use. You will need to strategize quickly to figure out the best way to get rid of the shields without having to add more.
As you gain points, you will accumulate trophies that give you powers from clearing the banner number to clearing the board. Other game features include:
- Multiple game modes
- A leader board
- The ability to pause and save the game quickly
- Easy to understand instructions
This game is good for most ages, and I think the two player capacity makes it a good road trip time killer. It’s always the most simple games that become the most addictive, and this one just may fall into that category!
Berserker is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad and requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later. A small fee was paid by the developer to expedite the publication of this review.
