If you’re a visual organizer, this is your new to-do app.
Created by Flying Dolphin Studio, MyDesk v1.5 has just been released with some great new features. In my previous review of the first version, I was impressed. The updates in this version – and the fact that the price remains the same – have me wowed.
This app is for those who are used to organizing their notes, papers, lists, pictures, and any other materials into folders. Personally, I’m much more likely to remember the placement or color of something than the title I gave it. Like “where’s that blue post-it note I stuck on the top right corner of my desk?”
Not everyone is a visual organizer, but if you are, MyDesk is for you. You can still customize your folders and papers with colors and font styles and sizes. You can still drag them anywhere on your desk. You can still email them – although now you can also email the whole folder as a zip file.
And now you can include so much more in those folders. Pictures, uploaded from your photo library or taken right there with your camera. Tablets, which are actually web live bookmarks with any URL of your choosing, right there on your desk and accessible through Safari. Use the shake feature to instantly reorder the folders on your desk when things get cluttered. Password protect your folders (these aren’t encrypted passwords).
The search feature works like a charm, and even better, you can also hold your iPhone horizontally to view a flowing preview, much like the one used in your music library to browse through albums.
MyDesk now has French and Italian localizations, with the promise of more in future versions. Also coming is remote access to documents, skins, widgets, and more – but honestly, with everything this version has to offer, I think the app is worth the price and then some.
MyDesk requires the iPhone OS 3.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch.
