Whether you are a budding new cook or an experienced family chef, you’ll enjoy the selection, instructions and ease of use of iCooking American Celebrations, developed by Apps of All Nations, LLC. Family, friends and food are what make holidays special and this app provides you with plenty of options for food – all you need to do is prepare great dishes and share them with others.
There are recipes for Christmas and Thanksgiving, New Year, Easter and Spring, Sports Events and Other Celebrations ( includes Mardi Gras King Cake, Corned Beef and Cabbage and Chocolate Cheesecake). When the holidays come around you won’t be sitting and wondering, “What should I cook?” There are old favorites (at least in my family) like Green Bean Casserole as well as detailed instructions on how to cook a turkey. You’ll find main dishes, sandwiches, vegetables and desserts.
I needed to bring something to a bake sale this week so I tried the pumpkin bread recipe in the Christmas and Thanksgiving list. I have never made pumpkin bread so this was an entirely new situation for me. There are a lot of things to like about this app – after selecting my recipe, I emailed it to myself (using options) so I could print it out to make it easier to use when shopping and cooking. Once you select a recipe to test, you have a photo of the finished product, an ingredient list, preparation instructions and options. Under options you can email it to yourself (or someone else) or add/remove it from your “favorite” list.
You can also add your own recipes into the app – including a photo of your dish. You can search through an alphabetical list of all recipes, types of dishes, favorites or your recipes. One suggestion would be to add a search sometime in the future. It might also be nice if there were instructions to convert to different types of pans. I could have made pumpkin cupcakes but I was unsure about how to adjust the time or temperature. This didn’t stop me – or really even slow me down – but options are always nice.
Judging by my experience with the recipe, iCooking American Celebrations has proved easy to use, offers excellent instructions and ends with a tasty finished product. My pumpkin bread sold out by noon, even outselling other yummy looking dessert treats! This was a great recipe and I was thrilled with the result. The next recipe I will be trying is bacon-stuffed potatoes or maybe layered bean dip. I can’t wait!
Apps for All Nations has created a number of iCooking apps. In the future I’ll be writing reviews for other cuisines and cooking methods. Sort of a Julie & Julia experience. I’ll test at least one recipe from each app. They will vary from hard to easy and from main dish, to soup, to dessert and offer all different kinds of cooking experiences. iCooking American Celebrations is the first of these reviews and I judge it a winner.
I love to search for recipes in cookbooks and this app delivers that experience and improves on it. I can look for recipes in the comfort of my home or while I am in the grocery store. At 99 cents it is quite a bargain. I’ll be going back to iCooking American Celebrations in the future to create meals for my family. Part of what makes us Americans is our love of our holidays. This app allows you to select a traditional dish that will make you a star in your own home or a welcome guest at your friends.
iCooking American Celebrations is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch and requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.
