Tired of going fishing and not catching anything worth keeping? You may want to try using a fishing calendar to get the most out of your time. Fishing Calendar, developed by SIS Software, is a solar-lunar calendar that estimates prime fishing days based on the rising and setting of the sun and moon and also the phases of the moon. The calendar predicts what the best times to fish will be (usually when the fish are feeding), which occurs most commonly around the times of sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset.

Fishing Calendar consists of a fishing efficiency Calendar, a log for recording your catches, and the Settings function. The Calendar can be viewed by month or week, with the probability of good fishing displayed as a bar on each day. To view any day, double tap the day of your choice and it will bring up a picture-graph of best fishing times and the times of the rising and setting of the moon and sun.

Fishing efficiency is measured as a wave on the bottom of the graph, with peaks representing best fishing times and valleys representing the worst fishing times. You can record your fishing success with My Catches, a nice feature which lets you track your fish. You can record all the essential information for your catch, such as date, time, location, weight, bait, air pressure, and water temperature, among others. In Settings, you can set up your location and the units of measure (imperial or metric). In order for the solar-lunar fishing calendar to work, you need to have your location estimated accurately. This can be done by using the GPS on your iPhone, or by searching and choosing a location with the Custom setting.

Some anglers may debate the efficacy of a solar-lunar calendar, but many have proven that such a system works. One thing that people do need to remember is that local weather patterns can also affect fishing success, so you should pay attention to the weather forecast. The developer is hoping to add weather forecasts to future versions of this app.

Fishing Calendar is a well designed fishing app that may be able to give you better fishing days. The developer is hoping to make some more improvements to the app in future updates, so keep an eye out. Record your catches with the app and see if this fishing calendar can work for you!

Fishing Calendar is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch; requires OS 2.2.1 or later

  1. Now this one might just convince me to get an iphone!

The only problem is, I’m guessing they aren’t waterproof. Of course, neither is the spiral notebook I usually carry with me, but at least it only cost 50 cents!

But I have been looking for a way to track my fishing, because I have suspected for a while now that fish bite better on certain days in different areas because of currents, food, and weather conditions. This just might do it for me.

Daniel, thanks for your comment! You can actually get waterproof and crush-proof cases for the iPhone and iPod Touch (I think Otter Box makes some). The developer is also hoping to add some more features to the app in the future, like weather forecasting, tidal predictions, and export functions.

Quick question, is the app stand-aloone or does it in any way integrate with my regular iphone calendar? I can absoluteley see the need for stand alone on the fishing log functions and such. However, it would be really nice to have moon data, sunrise/set, etc… synching into my regular calendar.

Mark, the Fishing Calendar does not sync with the regular iPhone calendar. Good question, though. This may be something you could suggest to the developer as a future update.

  5. Will this APP work on an ITOUCH IPOD at anytime anywhere or does it need to reach out to the internet when in use?
    Thanks,
    JR
