Assassin FPS is a neat little gadget, or game, depending on how much you get into it. The main attraction of the application is that it allows you to turn your very surroundings into a virtual battle ground.
Developed by differentium LLC, Assassin FPS uses your iPhone’s camera and super imposes controls and weaponry so that you can tear apart your neighborhood with a bazooka or AK47, or just plaster it with Nerf gun bullets.
Either option works well, with effects overlaying the objects your shooting at. This means that when you fire a missile at your neighbor’s car for taking your spot, you’re going to see it go up in flames. It’s all in good fun though and kind of therapeutic at the same time. For a gadget that only rings up at $0.99, that’s a pretty good outlet.
What’s most fun about these overlaid effects is that you can snap a screen shot either in the application or with the built in iPhone screenshot shortcut (lock key + home button). After that, send the shot off to your neighbor’s e-mail and you’ll have them running scared (seriously though, don’t threaten your neighbor).
While the primary weapons include twin Nerf pistols, an AK-47, a bazooka launcher, and a lazer gun, differentium has also included a scoped mode. This mode allows you to zoom in to that lazy cat you’ve got lounging on your sofa and plaster a bullet hole on top of it. Unfortunately you’re cat doesn’t have an e-mail for you to send that picture to, but it’ll still be a satisfying experience for you.
The scope also gives you the option of putting a more gruesome blood splatter on your target. If that isn’t for you, you can always fire deadly kisses at your opponent.
After playing around with this app with a friend, Assassin FPS turned out to make for a good amount of goofing off. Taking pictures of your friends with Nerf bullets covering covering their faces was a lot more fun that I thought it would have been.
Assassin FPS can be a lot of fun, whether you’re passing the iPhone around showing off your work or shooting e-mails to each other with your own iPhones. It’s easy to use, easy to get a lot out each feature set, and strangely stress relieving.
Assassin FPS is compatible with the iPhone and requires iPhone OS 3.1 or later.
