LuckyWheel – Better than Wheel of Fortune?

Price: $1.99    Score: 9/10   By Samuel P. BillingsworthLuckyWheel

Many of you game-show aficionados may be familiar with the popular Wheel of Fortune iPhone application, but what you may not have heard of is LuckyWheel. Developed cooperatively by Oliver Drobnik and Michael Dorn, and priced at $1.99, LuckyWheel is not only cheaper, but also has more depth to the gameplay.

LuckyWheel opens into the home screen, where you can continue a previous game, start a new game, or get game help with the “instructions” section. Clicking the “new game” button transports you to the set-up menu, where you can add up to 3 human players, or you can just compete by against the 2 CPU characters “Lucky” and “Willie”. There are 2 games you could turn this into; Wheel of Fortune, or Are you Smarter than a Computer? :)

One of LuckyWheel’s great features is the ability to play your own music during the game. Right at the start menu there’s an option to turn off game sounds, and play your own tunes. Another great feature of this app is the ability to quit and restart the game wherever you left off. LuckyWheel will automatically save the game in the exact spot you left it at. Once you open the app again, you can jump straight back into your game.

The gameplay itself is exactly what you’d expect from a Wheel of Fortune inspired game – you spin a big wheel, guess letters to solve a word puzzle and then earn whatever you spun on the wheel if you can guess the letter correctly. The first one to successfully solve the puzzle wins the round.

Unlike some games, LuckyWheel has great replay value. I don’t care if you beat Lucky and Willie a hundred times, you’ll always want to come back for more. With 6 different languages, and more than a hundred proverbs in each, you won’t ever get the same sentence again.

LuckyWheel ticks all the boxes; awesome replay value, great gameplay, free of bugs that hinder playing, and smart CPU’s. LuckyWheel is a great app; I couldn’t ask for more out of it. If you are still undecided between WoF and LuckyWheel – on value for money alone, LuckyWheel is the way to go.

LuckyWheel requires the iPhone OS 2.0 or later and is compatible with both the iPhone & iPod Touch.
