Essentially, your character (Mr. AahH) swings through the air, from platform to platform. It is your job to tell him when to let go of his rope. You must try to time his landing perfectly, getting him as close to the center as possible. The closer to the center he lands, the more points you get.
As the game progresses, some variables enter the playing field. These include the gravity being affected, either positively or negatively, as well as wind one way or the other. These variables make you rethink when you should have Mr. AahH let go of the rope, and negative gravity (going up) really makes things interesting and quite a bit of fun.
You’re also supposed to be able to alter Mr. AahH’s movement while he is in the air with accelerometer controls, but I’ll be honest – the landing is over so quickly that I’ve never noticed any difference.
Mr. AahH’s got three lives, so you’ve got three screw-ups until a game over. After you lose, you can submit your score to an online high score board, which gives this game a slightly competitive edge, and provides you with just one more reason to come back for more.
The sound in this game is incredibly fitting. The music sounds like a sped-up song from an underwater level in Sonic the Hedgehog, and the sound effects and voices are incredibly arcade-like, which goes along well with the game.
All in all, Mr. AahH!! provides a good amount of fun for a cheap, $0.99 price mark. As far as I’m concerned, this game was worth every penny. The graphics are cartoony and fun, yet simple enough to not draw your focus away from the objective. The gameplay is addictive… What more could you ask for?
And if my recommendation isn’t quite enough, you can always try out the free Lite version to help make up your mind. Regardless of what you do, this game is definitely worth a look.
Mr. AahH! requires the iPhone OS 2.1 or later and is compatible with both the iPhone and iPod Touch.
