Sleepmaker Storms Helps You Sleep

Price: $3.99   Score: 8/10    By Shaun Campbell Sleepmaker Storms Pro

I’ve always found something about storms to be strangely calming. I’m not sure if it’s the rolling thunder, the pitter-patter of rain on the roof or perhaps the knowledge that there’s no place better to be than all rugged up in bed – but storms put me straight to sleep.

Sleepmaker Storms from developer Software X has taken this idea and developed an iPhone app that contains real recorded storms to help you relax and get some shut-eye. The storms themselves were recorded in the wilderness of Tasmania, Australia, earlier this year.

Sleepmaker Storms features twenty storm soundtracks to choose from – each with varying levels of storm intensity. The descriptions range from “gentle long rolls and light rain” to “heavy frequent rolls with heavy rain”. There are also a few bonus tracks that include waves lapping at a beach, the sounds of a waterfall and rain falling off a porch, among others. They are all high-quality, professionally recorded sounds. It’s worth noting that these are not short sound-files either – they are real storms and most clips are about 45 minutes long – hence the hefty 50mb+ size of this app.

At $3.99, it’s an easy purchase if you have trouble getting off to sleep. I tried it out last night and it actually does help.

Bottom line: Relaxing, natural storms. Works a treat.

Sleepmaker Storms requires the 2.2 software update and is compatible with both the iPhone & iPod Touch.
