LightBike is Snake, Tron-style

LightBike from developer Pankaku is a Tron-inspired game that pits you against against three other computer or human-controlled light bikes in a contest that would make Jeff Bridges proud. The light cycles leave impassable walls of light in their wake that you have to dodge to stay alive. It actually plays out a lot like the classic mobile game Snake.

Controlling your bike is easy – simply tap on the screen to turn left or right (currently, there is no accelerometer support). Your bike will always make a 90 degree turn, and with surprising and welcome precision. The aim is to stay alive for as long as possible – running your bike off the edge of the playing field or crashing into an opponent’s light wall will knock you out of the game. It’s last-man-standing game-play and the first bike to 3 victories will be crowned the winner.

The graphics and sound FX are simple, yet effective and stay faithful to the movie. There is the option for two-player gameplay on the one iPhone (see video) or for upto four players over Wi-Fi. The only thing missing is an option for online play.

LightBike doesn’t currently have any kind of campaign or tournament structure and so remains purely a pick-up-and-play affair. But when the game is this fun, no-one’s complaining.

LightBike requires the 2.2 software update and is compatible with both the iPhone & iPod Touch
