Thrift is in. With a global recession gripping the world economy, everyone is looking to save money. And there is no better way to save money than to keep a budget. Keeping to a budget makes you accountable for your spending, and lets you track all of your expenses. BudgetCare from developer Suponix puts the tool you need to do it all right in the palm of your hand.

When you open BudgetCare, you have four main options to choose from:

  • New transaction
  • Statistics
  • Budget & balance
  • Settings

To set up your budget you simply go into “Budget and Balance”. BudgetCare lets you set a new budget each month, or you can roll it over to keep a fixed spend limit for each month. Once your budget is set up, you can view your total spend in relation to your current budget by day, week and month.

Entering transactions is extremely simple – you simply select “New transaction”, enter in the dollar amount and then select a category.  There are 13 categories to choose from, covering everything from bills and insurance, to car expenses, education and healthcare.  If you find that your expenses don’t fall neatly into one of the existing categories, it’s a simple process to add custom categories of your own. The default currency in BudgetCare is US dollars, but there is the option to change this to Euros, Pounds, Yen or Ruble. This only affects the symbol that is used

Once you have accumulated some data, you can generate both bar charts and pie charts direct from the “Statistics” screen. The data is grouped by category, which makes it incredibly simple to see where the majority of your spending is coming from.

BudgetCare is a relatively basic personal finance app, but doesn’t intend to be the be-all and end-all of personal financial management apps. It’s clean and simple to use, and therein lies its appeal. There is currently no option to export data and you cannot input income sources – but for only $1.99, BudgetCare gives you a great cost-effective tool to track your spending.

Budget Care requires the 2.1 software update and is compatible with both the iPhone & iPod Touch.

Hi! You could try WalletWhiz ( ). I tried to include just the essential features that a casual “budgeteer” would need. You can easily track your expenses & income through a unique but familiar Calendar interface, or the traditional Categories view. Thanks!
