Written iPhone App Review
Well-timed sound effects are priceless comedy material. There are so many situations that could do with a well-timed joke snare or crowd boo. Remote Sound Box is a neat little app from Laan Labs that features a whole bunch of cool (and random) sound effects.
There are four pages of customizable sound buttons (18 default sounds in total) and 6 empty sound slots. You can fill these with your own sound files or choose from a list of over 125 different sounds that fall into seven categories;
- Animals (20)
- Cartoon (18)
- Farts (33)
- Jingles (2)
- Music (8)
- Screams (14)
- Sound FX (24)
I think my counting was a little off…but you get the idea
With Remote Sound Box, you can record your own sounds with the built in recording feature (only for iPhone users) or even upload your own sounds from a computer. There is also a timer function (set a delay from 1 second to 5 minutes) and an alarm mode, which will play a sound when the iPhone/iPod is next moved. Also, If you happen to have a buddy with an iPhone, you can activate sounds remotely on each other’s phone over a Wi-Fi network.
The only problem with this app – and it’s not the developers fault – is that the speakers aren’t loud enough. Anything noise levels above light conversation and you won’t hear a thing.
Still, it’s the pinnacle of random sound apps and at this price – definitely worth a look.
Remote Sound Box requires the 2.2 software update and is compatible with both iPhone and iPod Touch (except recording)
