Bag Some Deer With Ace Hunter

Written iPhone App Review

Price: $0.99    Score: 8/10    By Shaun Campbell Ace Hunter: Whitetail Deer Hunt: Leaderboards edition

Bag yourself some white-tail in this new hunting sim for the iPhone from Coresoft Inc. – the team that brought you the hit game Super Sniper.

Ace Hunter is a realistic and fun point-and-shoot that features only one level, but beautiful graphics and fun game play. There is a panoramic forest background and tranquil soundtrack that set the scene and mood of the game. The deer themselves are well animated and wander through the foliage at different distances.

Ace Hunter features an intuitive zoom system that is automatically controlled – ‘mouse over’ a deer with your cross-hairs and your view will instantly begin to narrow and home in on your target.  Fire off a shot and miss though, and the deer will get spooked and bolt. Let me tell you, it takes a keen eye and cat-like reflexes to land a shot on a running deer.

You can choose from both tilt and touch control, but tilt is the really the only viable control method. For some reason, Ace Hunter does not let you aim with one finger and fire with the other. You have to take your finger off the aim and press fire – which means if you were tracking or leading a moving target (they’re all moving) you’re guaranteed to miss.

There are 3 difficulty levels affect the amount of time you will have to complete each level and adjust the size of the targets on the deer. Perfect shots to the heart earn you more points than head shots. You have to bag the required number of deer within the time limit to progress to the next level.

Overall, not a bad game – it’s not Big Buck Hunter, but it gets as close as you could expect.

Ace Hunter requires the 2.0 software update and is compatible with both the iPhone & iPod Touch
