The beauty of iPhone applications is that you can tailor your app selection to your interests. If you live a green lifestyle, watch Planet Green and love “Living with Ed” then The Green Brief is the app for you.

Developed by Climate Change Communications, The Green Brief features daily green-related news from a number of leading sources and offers advice and helpful information on reducing your energy bill and decreasing your own energy usage. I think what I liked best were the news feeds. Now, when talking to my like-minded green friends, I can drop references to the record temperatures set in September (L.A. Times) or that Norway Pledges 40% emissions cuts (NY Times). Daily feeds drop new articles into various categories including Climate Change News, Environment News and Green Living. In just a few minutes I can be up-to-date with all the latest green news.

There is also a section of The Green Brief that contains tips on green living. Many of them are likely to be old news to long-time greenies, but it took us a while to get to where we are so we shouldn’t sneer at providing the basics. One cool feature is that you can submit your own tips, so this section will likely be enriched by the community of Green Brief users.

Many people expect free apps, consider 99 cents acceptable and complain if anything costs more -  so you’ll have to decide if you think it is worth the $2.99. The Green Brief is essentially a news clipping service that directly matches your interests and tips that can save you money and cut your energy use – and I believe that the price is appropriate for the content you receive.
