There are a long line of useless – but cool – apps on the iPhone. Developed by Fabien Sanglard, Fluid is probably best described as an impressive tech demo – and with well over 700,000 downloads, its a hugely popular tech demo at that.
Essentially a liquid water simulation, Fluid responds to your touch and generates ripples and little waves in response. It still has some work to be done before it truly looks photo-realistic, but its getting there. The “ripples” get a bit out of control after a few touches and there tends to be a bit too much reflection – but it still makes you say “ooooh” and “aaahhh”, if only the first time you fire it up.
A new version (1.1) is soon to be released, which will add:
- Option panel by pressing four fingers simultaneously.
- Ability to change background.
- Zen music
- Support for multi-fingers.
Fluid requires the 2.1 software update and is compatible with both the iPhone & iPod Touch.

The name of the song is Lullaby from Ghost.

The music is called “ghostullaby.ogg”. If you have an unlocked phone, you can download it to your computer or even replace it with the song of your choice.
When you are encoding your song use the following settings:
Encoder: Ogg Vorbis
Bitrate: 74kbps
I use Xilisoft Audio Converter to convert my files.
You can find it under the following folder:
