The app is Everyday Looper. It’s like a looping pedal for the iPhone -- record short segments of audio, loop them, and then record each layer over the top until you’ve got yourself a song. It’s a one-man band in your pocket.

You can lay down the beat, the melody -- even harmonies. With a bit of time and practice you might just be able to pull off something like the guy in the video below:
