Sentry Alpha from MindTrick Software is old-school gaming at its best. A top-down shoot-em-up in the tradition of arcade classics like Xevius & Tiger Heli, Sentry Alpha brings alive the genre on the iPhone with exciting & fast-paced gameplay.
Sentry Alpha is a great pick-up-and-play game that pits the player against countless waves of enemy ships in a non-stop action-fest. They have numbers. You have unlimited ammo on auto-fire. This is iPhone gaming at its best. Simple. Fun. Addictive.
Sentry Alpha has a very intuitive control system, & makes full use of the iPhone accelerometer – you simply tilt your device in the direction you wish to fly. On-screen buttons in the bottom left-and right corners (added in v1.3) launch bombs and missiles respectively. You can also shake the device left-to-right to launch missiles, or up and down to drop bombs…but pressing the buttons is easier.
There are 7 stages all up, 3 difficulty levels, and a wide variety of air and ground-based enemies to test your mettle. There are also several bosses to really challenge your skills.
As you’d expect from any good shoot-em-up, Sentry Alpha features tons of power ups and a great over-the-top gun which can be upgraded multiple times. There are also power-ups for your missiles and ship health, all of which appear from the blown-up remains of your alien foes.
Sentry Alpha is a great game. Probably one of the best, if not the best, I’ve played on the iPhone. If you only had $2 to spend, I’d spend it on this.
Sentry Alpha requires the 2.1 software update and is compatible with both the iPhone & iPod Touch.
